Nearly a year ago, Robert brought home this beautiful umbrella plant. It was full, healthy, and thriving. Naturally, when the time came to repot, I decided to divide it into two plants.

One half is doing great.
This half? Well…he apparently missed the memo when I said, “Persevere.”
I thought he was thirsty, so I watered him. Then I realized the soil was staying wet, but he continued to droop anyway. He spent a few days outside in the Arkansas heat before I finally brought him inside, hoping the cooler temperatures would help him recover.
Since then, I’ve learned something I didn’t expect. A plant can look absolutely pitiful while still trying to grow. Even though many of the older leaves have drooped, there are tiny new leaves emerging from nearly every stem.
So, for now, I’m resisting the urge to keep “fixing” him.
No more moving him around.
No more watering every time he looks sad.
Just patience.
Gardening has a funny way of teaching the same lessons life does. Sometimes turning over a new leaf (pun intended) can still look messy. Because well, it’s growth.
Whether this guy pulls through or not, he’s already taught me something.
We’ll check back in a few weeks on a random Work on It Wednesday and see if he finally got the memo.
Also, if anyone has any advice, I’m open to it.
